ISN Endorses ‘OUR FUTURE LOS ANGELES/SB 679’

189

The ISN Housing Justice Committee has endorsed Our Future Los Angeles/SB 679. We demand a future where everyone has a safe, healthy and quality home – housing for all – in a strong and vibrant neighborhood of their choice; where everyone can succeed because we have dismantled the structures that create and perpetuate inequities; where everyone is safe because we have advanced new strategies that make homes affordable and create new pathways to home ownership; and where homelessness is unheard of because we have invested in proven solutions. Daniel Tamm, Chair of ISN Board of Directors, attended the June 22 LA County Board of Supervisors meeting and made the following statement:

Agenda Item 20 Analyzing Senate Bill (SB) 679 Los Angeles County: Affordable Housing Evaluating the County’s Role in Solving the Affordable Housing Crisis

“We know that housing affordability and renter protection has long been a constant consideration and striving of LA County. We acknowledge that SB 679 is building on the considerable work that has already been done. We see SB 679 as bringing together the disparate efforts, best practices, and new strategies to fuse the efforts of 88 cities across the County with collective clarity, and offer a just way forward for low and very low income people. On behalf of Interfaith Solidarity Network, a consortium of 54 diverse faith communities, we join with the Our Future LA coalition committed to transformational justice, and request that the Board of Supervisors see SB 679 as we do – an opportunity to partner in a compassionate housing justice solution, that is like going upstream to prevent people falling in the river, rather than jumping in the river each time a drowning person comes downstream.” Daniel Tamm

The ISN Housing Justice Committee also supports AB 71, which establishes a permanent source of funding and a collaborative statewide strategy for solving homelessness. It will fill gaps within the state’s response and will scale evidence-based solutions, while promoting innovations to move people quickly into permanent housing.
